In June 2009, as a result of clashes between members of illegal armed groups, the inhabitants of the KM 28, Chilvicito, and Pindales villages on the Pasto-Tumaco Road moved to municipal capitals where they were forced to live without the necessary tools to survive in an urban area to which they were not used to.

Over the years, the women of these three villages had the initiative to return to their lands, to retake their communities, their culture, and their life in the countryside. This is a population victim of forced displacement that has returned to improve their living conditions through access to food for self-consumption, promoting productive initiatives, strengthening leadership, and improving their living conditions. Social Prosperity, in alliance with FUPAD, has helped thousands of people in Colombia with different projects, one of them is called “FEST” - Families on their Land.

“FEST” contributes to the socioeconomic stabilization of the households that are victims of forced displacement (returned or relocated) through a comprehensive intervention that includes the strengthening of human and social capital, food security, habitability, and the generation or strengthening of productive projects.

Within the KM 28, Chilvicito, and Pindales villages, three community huts were created where they carry out activities for their communities, from vegetable gardens to cultivating, recycling centers, and initiatives for education and community work.

The Colombian Government has designed, developed, and executed hundreds of projects to complement and strengthen the processes carried out by the communities through social programs of health, education, housing, basic sanitation, and food security. As well as producing projects for the generation income, environmental quality, industrial safety and institutional strengthening of public, private, and grassroots organizations.

The rigorousness of the intervention, the permanent accompaniment, the respectful relationship with the community, and the building of alliances, allowed Social Prosperity and FUPAD to manage and consolidate successful results for over ten years of intervention.
